Dinner for Schmucks (2010)
* *
I am a fan of silly comedies however this one fell
into too many clichés and tried too hard to be funny. It is
disappointing considering how many big name comedic actors are in it.
The concept is unoriginal - a man befriending an
idiot - and everything is overly predictable throughout. Steve Carell’s
idiot is not loveable enough as well, you find yourself wishing he would
go away too as he is overly exaggerated. Several of the other
characters are also caricatures in performance and this never lends
itself to hilarity unless you are very drunk.
Some moments are enjoyable and I loved the mixture
of British and American comedians (even though all the British sported
some odd accents). However there is little else to like as this seems to
just be a faily lazy comedy with creators who hoped to throw stars into
their film and expect a bad script to become funny.
